The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W: Who is doing What, Where, When and for Whom
The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W (formerly known as MIMU 3W) supports the coordination of humanitarian, development and peace-related activities across Myanmar to better meet the humanitarian and development needs of Myanmar’s people. It is the largest and most detailed such exercise globally. It maintains updated information on WHO (which organizations) are doing WHAT (which activities), WHERE (in which locations), WHEN (project status and time frame), for WHOM (project focus), to enable organizations and donors to improve the targeting of beneficiaries to ensure that humanitarian, development and peace-focused needs are met.
The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W Products represent information as reported by organisations contributing to the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W. The HDP Nexus 5W Products show the presence of organisations and do not indicate the volume of assistance, the number of beneficiaries, or the extent to which needs are met or unmet. The HDP Nexus 5W Products have been prepared for operational purposes only, to support humanitarian and development activities in Myanmar. It is based on currently available information and is provided “as is”, for reference purposes only; the United Nations and the MIMU specifically do not make any warranties or representations as to its accuracy or completeness, Please share updates on any errors or omissions with MIMU. The boundaries and names shown, and the designations used on MIMU Products do not imply any opinion or endorsement of these terms by the United Nations and are in line with the general cartographic practice to reflect the names of such places as designated by the host governments.
The MIMU HDP Nexus 3W was established in 2008 after Cyclone Nargis and has since been expanded to reflect humanitarian and development activities undertaken by agencies in all States and Regions of Myanmar. In 2022, it was aptly named MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W.
Agencies share information on their planned, ongoing and recently completed activities every six months using sector and sub-sector definitions created by the various technical/sector working groups active in Myanmar. The HDP Nexus 5W data is made publicly available and shows the planned, ongoing and recently completed projects, while the maps and tables record only projects that are under implementation at the time of information collection. Agencies can determine the level of detail of their HDP Nexus 5W records and how they can be restricted (not made public), for example, the village name could be restricted for planned projects for which final permissions are pending.

How your organisation can participate
The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W is updated every six months with inputs from organizations and agencies operating across Myanmar. Inputs are provided in March for the April HDP Nexus 5W, and in September for the October HDP Nexus 5W. Organizations can participate by completing the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W Data Entry Form. - Please note: if you miss the last call for input, you can still provide information on your activities – these will be added to the online HDP Nexus 5W but not included in the MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W maps and tables which are widely disseminated.
The data requested for the HDP Nexus 5W is as follows:

- WHERE describes the geographics location of activities to State/Region, Township, Village Tract and Village/Camp level. The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W describes projects at village level (data files), at Village Tract level (sector and sub-sector static maps, village tract dashboard), and at township level (township dashboard and sector-level static maps and tables). The HDP Nexus 5W products can be found on the MIMU website. The Myanmar HDP Nexus 5W uses Place codes (Pcodes) – or unique location identifiers – which identify over 67,000 settlements across the country and allow mapping of the HDP Nexus 5W information.
- WHEN describes project status and timeframe. The MIMU HDP NEXUS 5W notes whether the project is planned, ongoing, suspended (indicating temporary or longer-term suspension) or completed/ended at the time of the HDP Nexus 5W analysis.
