MIMU Bulletin: Highlights from the 1st half of 2025
This MIMU Bulletin offers an in-depth interactive overview of the Myanmar Information Management Unit’s (MIMU) activities during the first half of 2025, covering the period from January to June.
- Earthquake Response (since Mar 2025): Within hours of the 28 March earthquake, MIMU launched a dedicated resource page, an interactive damage map built from social-media reports, and new earthquake dashboards. Targeted and curated communications through various social media channels played a key role in strengthening an early outreach.
- MIMU HDP Nexus 5W: Despite some challenges, the February 2025 round recorded over 140,000 activities from voluntary contributions of 217 organisations, keeping partners informed of who is doing what, where, when and for whom countrywide. The data proved crucial as baseline data for organisations active on the ground pre-disaster.
- Capacity Building: With only a slight setback after the earthquake, MIMU ran a full calendar of trainings every month. Courses ranged from Advanced Excel and GIS to Village Mapping. Self-paced Myanmar-language online courses were maintained and continued to receive interest.
- Pcodes and Village Mapping: The February 2025 release (v9.6) brought the number of villages in MIMU database to 66,657, with 80.8 % now geolocated. The latest round verified or added coordinates for 2,196 villages, including 44 new villages, to improve the reach of humanitarian and development activities in hardest-to-reach and most vulnerable areas of Myanmar.
