MIMU Evaluation 2020

MIMU Catalogue of Activities and Achievements ( January – December 2020 )

An external evaluation was conducted in early 2020 to review MIMU achievements and efficiency from 2015 -2019 as well as the wider progress since 2007.  It included an extensive Desk Review, meetings with over 50 key respondents and input from MIMU’s 2019 Client Survey (595 respondents).

Key findings of the MIMU Evaluation

  • Nearly all of MIMU’s targets in the 2015-19 period were met, while advancing work on national standards to an unprecedented extent.
  • MIMU has provided the community with trusted and reliable data and information management services that have empowered agencies and informed decision-making, policy, advocacy and capacity building, and is moving with Myanmar through its digital journey while modelling open-data practice.
  • There is a countrywide appetite for MIMU products and services across various people, organisations and institutions. These products and services have remained relevant due MIMU’s relationships with key stakeholders and client-oriented approach.
  • Principal aspects to MIMU’s success have included its ongoing relevance through focusing on the priorities and immediate needs of humanitarian, development and peace (DHP) actors; obtaining Government and community buy-in; multi-year funding; empowering others to build IM capacity; and through MIMU’s IT capacity to swiftly implement projects.
  • MIMU is a convener that has contributed to the DHP nexus through its cross-discipline products and bringing together various actors through workshops, forums and discussions around key issues.
  • MIMU retains legitimacy and independence in being UN as well as having a separate governing body.
  • Moving forward, MIMU should continue its current approach based on its foundation of data and information, maintaining and refining its services as necessary and growing with Myanmar on its data and digital journey while coordinating with relevant actors to maintain efficiency.
